Issue #20: Stop treating creative projects like a chore
A reminder to protect your energy while making space for what fuels you.
Life has felt like a constant juggling act lately, and I know I’m not the only one feeling stretched in every direction. In the middle of all that noise, I’ve been carving out small pockets of time to focus on my own creative projects and interests so they don’t become afterthoughts.
I’ve always loved diving headfirst into new hobbies with the excitement of gathering supplies, researching everything I can, and dreaming about what they might become. But somewhere between starting and sustaining, I tend to fizzle out and move on to something new.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into setting aside blocks of time before and after work for my own creative endeavors. Instead of treating them like one more thing to cross off an ongoing to-do list.
So for the upcoming month, I want to wake up earlier and dedicate time to my longtime, ambitious goal of writing a novel that’s been pushed to the backburner too many times.
What creative projects do you want to prioritize this week? Is there something you’ve been meaning to return to or finally start that’s been calling for your attention?

This week, I’m sharing a playlist full of early 2000s nostalgia, a simple pasta dish perfect for summer nights, and a reminder to protect your energy while making space for what fuels you.
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
TRY: Treat your creative projects like a part of your routine instead of another item on your to-do list. There’s something about carving out even 30 minutes and giving yourself the space to just create without pressure. Consider challenging yourself to set aside time for passion projects and savor the process instead of rushing to the finish.
WATCH: If you have a soft spot for early 2000s romantic comedy dramas, Mostly Martha is a must-watch. It’s the original German film that inspired No Reservations but this version has a quiet charm and easy chemistry between the actors that makes it feel more intimate. Watching it felt nostalgic in the way only that era’s romantic movies were able to capture.
LISTEN: This ‘99/’00 fall shopping playlist has been on repeat all week. It reminds me of those evening errands from childhood with the windows down, radio playing, and the soft glow of store lights.
EAT: This zucchini basil pasta is a simple way to use up that extra zucchini in your fridge and it’s a saucy, one-pot dish ready in under 30 minutes. I’m swapping the gremolata for a fresh squeeze of lemon and red pepper flakes.
WHAT TO READ NEXT
Saltwater by Katy Hays is the twisted summer mystery that you need to read. A decades old crime, secrets, family drama, and the complicated dynamics of old money on the beautiful coast of Capri. It’s a slow, plot-driven story with multiple POVs and timelines but it’s atmospheric and entertaining.

If the playlist wasn’t enough to stir up some nostalgia, these 12 throwback activities are the perfect way to channel a ‘90s summer.
This roundup of 25 books by LGBTQ+ authors will have you adding quite a bit to your “to read” list, but it’s worth it.
The Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash has been a favorite of mine for years. Because it’s a powder, it lasts forever, and it’s one of the few cleansers that leaves my skin feeling soft instead of stripped. If you have sensitive skin and want something gentle that still gives a good cleanse, this one is worth it.
If you’re feeling low energy more than usual, it could be your daily habits making you feel drained and time to change your routine.
